About the Fort

Originally constructed in 1862, the fort has been in continuous use up to the present day and was converted into a museum in 1958. It houses collections and artifacts from the surrounding region, including exhibits of Hispanic and Native American cultures. You'll be introduced to the everyday life of the region's settlers and learn about traditional mining, medical, farming, and ranching techniques. Other historic buildings on the property include a 1890s saloon, an 1876 log school house, an 1855 blacksmith shop, and others.
